Long Nosed, Middle Spoon, J.Beveridge. (1852-1899) Born in St Andrews and learned trade in Tom Morris’s shop. 1881 census at west links, North Berwick, and later at the Royal Isle of Wight Golf Club before emigrating to the USA in 1894 to 1899, club maker to the Shinnecock hills Golf Club, Long Island. A rare set of wooden clubs made by him is in the possession of Hankly Common Golf Club, Surrey, England.  This club together with another a Tom Morris Long Nosed Club was found affixed to the inside of a oak ceiling beam in the old original south of England golf clubhouse, (the club dates from the very early 1890’s).

No member in the club has any idea where the clubs came from or how long they have been there,(A letter confirming this fact and signed by the existing club chairman will be provided}.

My belief is that these clubs were simply left at the club back in the late 1800's as they had been superseded by the Bulger a later type of club.                                                                                                                            Club Description: Length of shaft (whole club) 39”. Angle of head to shaft 120`.Weight: 14 ounces. Grip: Thick Leather with under listing 1-1/4” long (Worn). Shaft: Hickory.   Head: Length 6” Width 2-1/8” Face depth 1-1/8” Club Face: Concave 1/8th” Loft: 22`(equates to a 3/4 wood). Lead back weight. Bone leading edge pegged and screwed to sole, Whipping appears original. This club overall is in its original worn condition. The head in the past suffered some damage and was repaired by replacing 2 of the bone dowels fixing the horn insert by 2 Brass screws, there is a fine crack from the underside of lead to the sole. This repair was most likely done by the original owner or his professional, it certainly is a very old repair.
