A messotint of HENRY CALLENDER Esquire.(Captain of the society of Golfers at Blackheath).  Engraved by William Ward, engraver to their R.H.the Prince Regent and Duke of York. From an original painting by L.F.Abbott.(1760-1803) In addition to the above additional text reads TO THE SOCIETY OF GOFFERS AT BLACKHEATH. The plate,is with just respect Dedicated to their most humble servant W.Ward. Published 16.1812 by Wm Ward, 24 Buckingham place, Fitzroy Square. In the bottom left hand corner is the word PROOF. The print is in its original frame of Black and Gilt, size approx: 800mmx600mm. This is the earliest of this print and should not be confused with the later print of 1860 that is generally referred to as the one with the staring eyes. Namely because we believe the original plate was worn and the later prints showed the eyes as being slightly different from the earlier print. This is a must for any serious collector of prints. Circa 1812. Original Black and Gilt Frame. Museum Condition.
